KATHMANDU- Ncell and the Nepal Association of Tour Operators, or NATO, have entered into a partnership aimed at giving international tourists visiting Nepal easier access to telecommunications services.
Ncell Chief Consumer Business Officer Upanga Dutta and NATO President Bishwesh Shrestha signed a memorandum of understanding at an event held at the Nepal Tourism Board on Thursday.
Under the partnership, Ncell will provide mobile connectivity services to tourists visiting Nepal from different countries.
The service is expected to help tourists remain in contact with family members, friends and others in their home countries while travelling to different parts of Nepal.
NATO will use its nationwide network of travel operators to inform tourists about Ncell’s telecommunications services and facilities.
Dutta said the partnership would combine Ncell’s nationwide network with NATO’s reach in the tourism sector to make travel more convenient for visitors.
He said the collaboration was also expected to promote Ncell’s “Nepal Calling” campaign and support efforts to establish Nepal as a leading tourist destination.
Shrestha said tourism was fundamentally about connecting people, cultures and experiences, and that NATO had partnered with Ncell to help tourists stay connected throughout their journeys.
Support for WASH Infrastructure Along Highways
Alongside the telecommunications partnership, Ncell will support NATO through the Ncell Foundation, under its corporate social responsibility programme, to establish modern water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure along major highways.
A pilot project will be launched in the first phase at Gajuri in Dhading.
Ncell said the project was designed to address the safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene needs of tourists travelling along major highways, as well as those of local communities.
