KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated Oman by 10 runs in their final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series to finish sixth in the standings with 30 points from 36 matches.
The victory concluded Nepal’s League 2 campaign, but the team had already fallen out of contention for a top-four finish. Nepal will now have to compete in the World Cup Qualifier Play-off to pursue a place in the qualification pathway for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Finishing in the top six of League 2 offers teams a strong chance of retaining their One Day International (ODI) status.
Chasing a target of 281, Oman managed 270 for seven in its allotted 50 overs. Jatinder Singh top-scored with 89 runs, while Hammad Mirza contributed 87, but their half-centuries were not enough to secure victory.
For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee and Lalit Rajbanshi took two wickets each. Nandan Yadav and captain Sandeep Lamichhane also claimed wickets.
Nepal’s 10-run victory provided a winning finish to the League 2 campaign, although the team must now navigate the play-off route to keep its 2027 World Cup qualification hopes alive.
