KATHMANDU- Following the legacy of his father, veteran film exhibitor Nakim Uddin, Obeid has formally embarked on a career in filmmaking.
The production of ‘Video Tape’, which will mark Obeid’s directorial debut, was announced on Tuesday. The film will be made under Apple Entertainment, Uddin’s home production and film distribution company.
Obeid had long been preparing for his debut while searching for a suitable story to direct. As part of that preparation, he studied in Hollywood and also gained directing experience with some well-known Nepali film directors and producers.
He will now make his directorial debut with a film produced under his home banner, Apple Entertainment.
At a press conference, the production team said filming would begin in Upper Mustang on Bhadau 5. The film has a 30-day shooting schedule.
Upasana Singh Thakuri and Kundan Man Shakya will play the lead roles. The cast also includes Astitwa Bhattachan, Krishal Shrestha, Risu Raut, Jivan Adhikari, Shekhar Chapagain and Siddhartha Singh. Vashistha Pradhan will handle cinematography.
“I grew up watching horror films from a young age. That is why I have chosen to pursue the same genre for my debut film,” Obeid said at the event. “The story is based on a fictional subject. It does not resemble any real incident.”
Upasana said discussions about the film had been underway for a year.
“We have been discussing this film for the past year. The story is very good. Now we are going to begin filming. I am extremely excited,” she said.
Kundan also said he was very excited about the film. The press conference was told that ‘Video Tape’ will be produced on a budget of Rs 40 million.
Speaking at the event, Apple Entertainment chief and QFX Cinemas director Nakim Uddin urged everyone to support the new team.
Uddin has played an unparalleled role in bringing a digital revolution to Nepali cinema and is praised for his work in establishing multiplex culture in Nepal.
Obeid now appears set to carry forward the legacy of his father, Nakim.
