KATHMANDU- Nepal’s Santoshi Shrestha won the bronze medal in the women’s 5,000 metres at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver 2026 held in Bhubaneswar, India, on Saturday.
Santoshi completed the distance in 17 minutes, 31.75 seconds to secure bronze.
Kenya’s Diana Wanja won gold, while India’s Bharati took silver. Wanja completed the race in 15 minutes, 16.11 seconds, while Bharati clocked 15 minutes, 46.45 seconds.
Santoshi also holds Nepal’s national record in the event. She set the national record of 16 minutes, 36.61 seconds at the South Asian Athletics Championship held in Ranchi, India, last October.
Santoshi, who is currently preparing for the 20th Asian Games in Japan, made history by winning a medal at a World Athletics Silver-level competition.
She has already set national records in women’s marathon, half marathon, 10,000 metres, 5,000 metres and 1,500 metres.
