US Midterms Tuesday: Nepali-Origin Candidates Harry Bhandari and Satish Chapagain Campaign in Maryland

KATHMANDU : Midterm elections will be held in the United States next Tuesday. As election day on November 3 nears, campaigning is heating up in Maryland, a state with a large Nepali community.

Satish Chapagain, who is also a media professional, is a Democratic Party candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates from District 7A. Harry Bhandari is standing from District 8 for a third consecutive term.

Both candidates did well and won in the earlier early voting, the report said. They are now meeting voters, including from the Nepali community, to seek votes and present their agendas.

The Nepali community living in Maryland is also supporting their campaigns. In the videos and photos received, locals who are not of Nepali origin can also be seen helping with campaigning for Chapagain and Bhandari.

The election, taking place in the middle of President Donald Trump’s second term, could change the balance of power in both chambers of the US Congress. It will also influence how easily the Trump administration can implement its policies and programmes over the next two years.

The presidency is not on the ballot in this election. American voters will elect members of the House of Representatives, the Senate and officials in various states. Its main purpose is to choose the lawmakers who represent voters in Congress.
