KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Kathmandu Horror Film Fest has concluded after three days of screenings featuring horror and genre films from Nepal and other countries.
The festival ended with a screening of Aisha Can’t Fly Away, directed by Morad Mostafa. The closing ceremony was attended by Nepal Academy of Music and Drama Chancellor Brajesh Khanal, Russian Embassy Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission in Nepal Rinchen Rakshaev, former minister Ganesh Shah, and Nepal Film and Cultural Academy Chairman KP Pathak, among others.
In the festival’s competition section, the Nepali short film KNAR, directed by Aakash Dhimal, was named Best Short Film. The award was decided through audience votes among 18 competing short films.
Among six feature films in competition, In This Darkness I See You, directed by Nadim Tabet, won Best Feature Film. The film is a co-production of France, Lebanon, Qatar and Saudi Arabia and received the award based on audience votes.
The festival began in 2025 with screenings of 25 films. This year’s edition selected 26 films from 21 countries through an international open call. The selection included eight feature films and 18 short films. Five of the selected films were Nepali productions or co-productions.
Festival chairman KP Pathak said the second edition had demonstrated considerable audience interest in horror and genre films in Nepal.
“Horror films have given filmmakers an opportunity to present subjects such as folklore, society and identity in different ways,” Pathak said.
The organisers said they would continue to provide opportunities for Nepali filmmakers to explore genre-based storytelling.
