KATHMANDU: The trailer of ‘Jalaki’, scheduled for nationwide release on November 20, has attracted attention from viewers and reached sixth place on YouTube’s Movies Trending list.
Since its release, the trailer has received positive responses from audiences and reviewers on social media and YouTube.
After watching the trailer, several viewers have drawn comparisons with director Ashok Thapa Magar’s previous successful film, Khusma. Like Khusma, Jalaki features the traditional culture of the Magar community, a rural setting and an emotional love story. The film is consequently being viewed by audiences as one of the anticipated romantic releases of the year.
The pairing of lead actors Upasana Singh Thakuri and Sonam Topden has also attracted attention. Their college romance and on-screen chemistry, featured in the trailer, have drawn interest from viewers.
Sahara Hangma Limbu, who is making her Nepali film debut with Jalaki, has also begun receiving attention for her performance. Despite being her first film, her natural acting and screen presence in the trailer have caught viewers’ interest.
Featuring scenes from Pokhara, Myagdi and Rolpa, the trailer depicts the college life of Sonam and Upasana, including intimate moments in classrooms and libraries. It also portrays their subsequent separation and emotional ups and downs.
Before the trailer’s release, the film’s three songs, Kalejiko Chheu, Chandi Jalap and Jale Rumal Mayalai, along with its teaser, had also received positive responses from audiences.
The title Jalaki refers to a traditional stone pillar regarded as a symbol of faith and memory in the Magar community. Director Magar has presented it in the film as a strong foundation of love and trust.
Alongside Upasana, Sonam and Sahara, the film features Shilpa Maskey, Maotse Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Astitwa Bhattachan, Rajani Gurung, Raju Regmi Magar, Usha Khadki, Khadkabahadur Pun (Khabapu), Lunibha Tuladhar, Sangeeta Thapa, Karma Lama Tamang, Bhawana Magar, Raj Kaucha Magar and Duisang Thin, among others.
Captain Bijay Lama will appear in a special role. Child actors Munjan Thapa Magar, Nulamma Bantawa and Rinsi Dhanaha Magar are also part of the cast.
Produced under the banner of M Media Production, the film’s producers are Om Gharti Magar, Birbahadur Lama, Chandrabahadur Bhattachan, Betane Magar (Babita Rana), Manbahadur Dhanaha Magar and Susmita Budhathoki.
The film will be distributed by Govinda Shahi’s Kafiya Films and Kuber Cine Distribution.
