MORANG, Nepal: Police have arrested 24 South Korean nationals in Sundarharaicha Municipality, Morang district, for engaging in religious preaching after entering Nepal on tourist visas, police said.
The group was arrested while attending religious training at Nepal New Covenant College on Malati Marg in Ward 7 of Sundarharaicha Municipality.
Police said they were preparing to send the arrested individuals to the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu for further investigation and legal action.
Morang District Police Chief Kavit Katwal said the arrests were made after the South Korean nationals were found participating in religious preaching while on tourist visas.
“They came on tourist visas and were found to be involved in religious preaching. You cannot come for one purpose and engage in another activity,” Katwal said.
The South Korean nationals arrived in Biratnagar via Kathmandu on October 6 and 7, according to the Nepali calendar dates of Asoj 20 and 21. Their schedule indicated that they would remain in Morang until October 12.
Police sources said Nepal New Covenant College, which operates with support from Love Nepal Mission, teaches Christianity.
The Department of Immigration will take action against those arrested, police said.
