KATHMANDU – The trailer for the Nepali feature film “Himalayan Gold” has been released. The film, based on a survival story, will be released on November 20.
It is also the last film featuring the late Sunil Thapa. The production side said that taking Thapa’s final performance to audiences in Nepal and international markets is a tribute to his grand legacy, after decades of contributions to Nepali cinema that left a lasting impression on viewers.
Alongside Thapa, the film stars Parikshya Limbu, Karma, Rahul N. Mukhiya and Sajan Thapa in lead roles.
Speaking at the trailer launch, director Dheeraj Rajbanshi said the film has been made in a very different way. “There are no songs in it, but its background music is excellent and pulls the audience into the film. Technically, we have worked with an international team,” he said.
The film will be shown in Nepali, with local subtitles, in countries including India, Japan and Australia.
Actress Limbu said the project is completely different from her earlier films. “My earlier films were social dramas, family dramas and love stories. This one is a survival story about what remains when everything is taken from a person’s life,” she said. “Because few women-led films are made in Nepal, getting this film is special for me. Although the shoot was challenging, it was completed very smoothly.”
Actor Karma said he is always excited to work with new directors and new ideas. “The script of this film is very different from regular Nepali films. I want to thank the director for understanding that films with women as the main character also have a market,” he said.
Distributor and producer Nakim Uddin said the film has strong potential in the international market. “AA Films liked it and an agreement has been signed to release it in India. They are also liking it in Japan and other countries,” he said. “If a film of this kind gets an international market, the Nepali film industry will move even further ahead.”
