KATHMANDU- QFX, one of Nepal’s major multiplex cinema chains, has declared ‘Kabaddi 5’ a superhit after the film crossed Rs 15 million in gross earnings at its cinemas within three days.
QFX has a specific benchmark for assigning box office labels to films screened at its cinemas. A film that earns Rs 15 million gross during its opening weekend, defined as the first two days, qualifies as a blockbuster. A film that earns the same amount within its first week qualifies as a superhit.
Directed by Rambabu Gurung, Kabaddi 5 met the superhit benchmark in just three days.
The superhit tag appeared on QFX’s official website on Sunday morning.
According to Team Quest, the company’s system automatically displays the relevant tag on its website when a film meets the prescribed box office earnings threshold. No film has yet met QFX’s blockbuster benchmark, the company said.
QFX currently operates 16 cinemas with 38 screens across Nepal.
‘Kabaddi 5’ is the first Dashain-release film to receive QFX’s superhit designation. As of Sunday afternoon, Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2, Aabat Aama 2 and 12 Gaun 2 had not received the same recognition from the chain.
In another notable coincidence, actor Dayahang Rai’s other film, Pension Patta, had also previously received QFX’s superhit designation.
