KATHMANDU – The government has banned the Indian film “Udta Teer” from being shown in Nepal. In a letter to the distribution company, National Cine Group Nepal, the Ministry of Information and Communications said the film cannot be permitted for public screening.
The ministry’s audiovisual and broadcasting section told the distributor in the letter that the film had been found to be made on subject matter prohibited by Section 8(3) of the Film (Production, Exhibition and Distribution) Act, 2026 (Bikram Sambat), and that permission for public screening therefore cannot be granted under that provision.
The Central Film Examination Committee had reviewed the film a few days earlier. Directed by Akash Kaushik, the film had been preparing for release from Friday.
The film, which stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, is a Hindi spy comedy. It follows an intelligence agent who has lost his memory and ends up stranded on the zero line of the India-Pakistan border.
Because the film has an anti-Pakistan storyline, it is not hard to see why Nepal’s Central Film Examination Committee banned it, the original report said. The committee had earlier decided not to permit public screening of films targeting India and Pakistan that could affect relations with friendly countries.
