UK Raises Student Visa Funds Requirement: What Nepali Students Need to Know

KATHMANDU- International students who want to study in the United Kingdom will have to show higher living costs for a student visa.

The UK Home Office will raise the minimum financial requirement for student visa applications from November 30, 2026. Under the new rules, students studying outside London must show £1,203 a month for living costs, up from £1,171.

Accordingly, students studying outside London must show proof of £10,827 for nine months of living costs. The earlier figure was £10,539.

The minimum living-cost amount for students studying in London has also been raised. They must show £1,570 a month, up from £1,529.

Besides living costs, students may also have to show proof that they have enough money to pay the fees for the first academic year of their course. The required funds generally must have been held in a bank account for 28 consecutive days.

The new financial requirement will apply to those applying for a student visa from November 30, 2026. However, some applicants may be exempt from the rule on providing financial evidence.

It would be appropriate for Nepali students going to study in the UK to check the new financial requirement and the required documents on the UK government’s official website before applying for a visa, the report said.
