KATHMANDU- The music royalty collecting society will distribute royalties to Nepali creators and artists for songs played on Ncell PRBT (personalised ring-back tone) and TikTok. The society will distribute royalties worth Rs 3.8 million (38 lakh) to creators on Wednesday.
The royalties will be distributed to creators who are members of the society, said Sagar Pandey, the society’s chief executive officer (CEO). According to him, the distribution programme will be held in a hall at Kimchi Restaurant in Anamnagar, Kathmandu.
He said that the rights to a song’s tune and lyrics (publishing rights) lie with the lyricist and composer. Under these rights, a platform that uses music must distribute a certain percentage of money to the song’s original creators through royalties.
Pandey said that royalties for songs and music played on Ncell’s PRBT and on TikTok have recently been received to be paid to the people who created them, so the society is preparing to distribute them to the creators concerned. He said creators must contact the society with documents showing that the song is their own.
