KATHMANDU- Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) for leaving the national team’s training camp in Denmark.
The federation announced the disciplinary decision on Monday, October 19, following an incident on September 30, when Ronaldo left Portugal’s camp in Copenhagen ahead of a UEFA Nations League match against Denmark.
The 41-year-old forward’s departure followed a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the team. Ronaldo had been left on the bench and was not brought on during Portugal’s match against Norway.
Ronaldo later accused the coach of breaking his word over his playing time. He also apologised for leaving the camp and said he would accept the consequences of his actions.
The federation’s disciplinary council found that Ronaldo had committed an offence under Article 160(1) of its disciplinary regulations and imposed a 30-day suspension alongside the €255 fine.
According to the Associated Press, Ronaldo’s suspension began on October 1, meaning he had already served part of the ban when the decision was announced. He is expected to have completed the suspension before Portugal’s next scheduled international matches in November.
The disciplinary decision marks a formal response to the captain’s departure from the national team camp.
