Actress Benisha Hamal Launches OTT Platform ‘MeroStream’

KATHMANDU- Actress Benisha Hamal has launched an over-the-top (OTT) platform, “MeroStream.” Hamal said the platform was started to bring Nepali entertainment content to audiences through digital media.

The subscription-based platform lets viewers watch films, short films, shows and web series under a single membership.

Although internet and smartphone access in Nepal is growing, there is a lack of a reliable and organised digital platform for Nepali content, the report said. When viewers want to watch content in their own language and culture, they sometimes have to search for scattered videos on YouTube, and at other times wait for the limited run in cinema halls.

Hamal said “MeroStream” was launched to fill this gap. It offers three membership plans, Basic, Standard and Premium, depending on viewers’ needs and spending capacity.

According to Hamal, all three plans are ad-free, allow up to four profiles on a single account and can be watched on a TV through Chromecast or AirPlay. Choosing a longer plan costs less than paying monthly.

The six-month plan saves up to 10 percent and the annual plan up to 20 percent. Hamal said there are no extra charges such as pay-per-view, rent or credit.

Hamal had also begun acquiring the digital rights to Nepali films earlier.
