16th International Open Friendship Taekwondo Championship to Be Held in Melbourne

KATHMANDU – The 16th International Open Friendship Taekwondo Championship (IOFTC-2026) will be held in Melbourne on November 28 and 29.

The event, organised by IOFTC Australia Limited, is expected to draw athletes, coaches and taekwondo clubs from various countries.

The IOFTC began in 2000 in Kathmandu, Nepal, on the initiative of Grandmaster Diwakar “Dan” Maharjan. It has been promoting international friendship, sportsmanship and cultural exchange through taekwondo.

The 2026 championship is the 16th edition of the international sporting event.

The championship’s chair, Mahadev Dhanuk, is a former Nepali taekwondo player and the founder, director and head coach of Everest Taekwondo School Victoria.

He is also the state coordinator of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Victoria.

Chair Dhanuk said the championship offers athletes an opportunity to showcase their abilities, gain international experience and build friendly relations among athletes from different countries.

He has called on athletes, clubs, coaches, parents, volunteers and sponsors to cooperate in making the championship a success.
